As people continue to spend most of their daily lives indoors, worlds built by virtual and augmented reality are becoming more and more populated. Facebook wants to enhance that experience, by creating more realistic avatars driven by face and eye tracking on future Quest devices.

Facebook Working on Oculus Quest 3 and 4

In a podcast interview for The Information, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg?revealed the company has already taken steps in developing the next?Oculus Quest headsets. "We have product teams spun up now, working on the next few generations of virtual reality and what Quest 3 and 4 are gonna look like," he says.

Zuckerberg also expressed his excitement about future versions having?face and eye tracking, which will help animate realistic VR avatars.

"When I think about where you’re at with VR today, you go into the experience—there are some pretty good games and different experiences. But I’d love to get to the point where you have realistic avatars of yourself, where you can make real authentic eye contact with someone and have real expressions that get reflected on your avatar.”
